Did you know that Kodak has discontinued making slide projectors as of this month? They still make slide film, but this is the beginning of the end for slide technology, as media presentations are increasingly made in Powerpoint and other digital formats. To celebrate the 40-year lifespan of slide technology, this exhibition by local artist and filmmaker Devon Damonte features images made with rubbings of slide projectors and related apparatus. These multicolored rubbings are presented on the walls and in an ongoing installation of two Kodak Carousel slide projecting continually onto the curved ceiling of the Capitol Theater Mezzanine, and bouncing off the many mirrors in the room. The cameraless images projected are unique original color rubbings taped directly onto clear slides. Several special events are scheduled with the exhibition:

-- a reception on Saturday, June 26 from 3-5 pm which features live sound by Eric Ostrowski (of Noggin fame, in conjunction with the Olympia Experimental Music Festival), and a special live projection show;

-- and a special multiple slide projection performance in the Capitol Theater auditorium, Thursday, July 15, at 8:30 pm, after Olympia Film Society’s feature program. This is the grand finale of the Carousel Slide exhibition, with an multimedia extravaganza featuring all the projectors in the theater at once – digital video, multiple slide projectors, 16mm and 35mm film.
